Female Victim Left Shaken After Gunpoint Robbery At Hotel; Assailants Steal Money, Cellphone And Credit Cards

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / July 28, 2016

ST. THOMAS — A woman who visited the Blue Beard’s Castle Hotel on Wednesday night to pick up her husband from work, was robbed at gunpoint by two black males, leaving the victim shaken and stealing multiple items from her person, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this afternoon.

According to Ms. Freeman, at about 11:26 p.m. on Wednesday, the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the hotel, after receiving notification of the incident.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers met with the victim, who stated that at about 11:10 p.m., she parked her vehicle in the lower parking lot of the hotel to pick up her husband from work, and was suddenly approached by a slim, back male wearing what appeared to be a mask, who also had a black handgun. The victim said she promptly kicked open her vehicle’s door and started to scream, and thereafter observed a second black male standing to the rear of her vehicle. He too, had a handgun, she said.

The victim said the first male suspect asked for her purse, which she took, removed her wallet and handed the wallet over to him. The suspect then asked the victim to reveal other items in the purse, but even as the victim begged that her cellphone not be taken, it was nabbed anyway.

Meanwhile the second suspect was yelling, “Let’s go,” according to Ms. Freeman. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

They took with them an undisclosed amount of cash, the cellphone and credit cards.

Police say detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau are continuing their investigation into the incident and instructed the victim to notify her cellular company and banks of the incident to have the credit cards cancelled and reissued.

The force is asking anyone with information concerning this incident to contact 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
