ST. CROIX — A Bohlke International Airways plane, which was being rented by a flight instructor and a student crashed on Sunday morning at about 11:51 a.m. near Estate Yellow Cedar, which is just west of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, officials from the Police Department and 911 have made known. Above, an ambulance leaving the airport on Sunday following the accident.
The incident left the 45-year-old flight instructor and 19-year-old student injured but responsive, with one of the victims suffering a broken leg and both sufferring contusions. Their conditions were serious but stable, according to officials. One of the victims also suffered lacerations to the face.
After the crash, police officials could be seen filing in and out of Bolhke International Airways, situated just west of the airport. A call placed on Sunday to the private carrier — established in 1959 by Bill Bohlke Sr. — was not immediately returned. An employee told The Consortium that staff was in a meeting discussing the crash and that someone would get in touch with the publication.
Limited information about the crash itself — what caused it and how exactly the accident happened — was made available. The make and model of the plane was also unknown at time of writing.
