ST. CROIX — Three people were shot on Thursday night near a bar in Times Square, in the town of Christiansted, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has confirmed to this publication.
A Consortium reporter on the scene saw multiple police and EMS personnel in the cordoned off area near the Bienvenidos Bar moments following the incident. An ambulance had just left the scene, with Mr. Dratte confirming that two victims were transported by ambulance while a third was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by a police vehicle.
A woman who frequents the area to sell produce, expressed dismay at the occurrence, telling The Consortium that she would never visit the area again, because her vehicle had been hit by bullets. “Oh my God. I could have been killed,” she said. An inspection of her vehicle revealed multiple holes on the hood caused by gunshots, and another to the passenger’s side of the vehicle.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. People on the scene described hearing a flurry of bullets — over 40 shots — rattling the town.
As of late Thursday, according to Mr. Dratte, the victims were said to be alive. Police Commissioner Delroy Richards told The Consortium this morning that two of the victims were stable, although they were unwilling to share information. The third victim was in worse condition and could be paralyzed, Mr. Richards added, after being shot about his body, including his groin and buttocks.
The incident is under investigation. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of those involved in yesterday’s shooting, to call the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 and 5557. Residents can also contact 911, Crime Stoppers V.I., the chief’s office at 340-715-5548 or the commissioner’s office at 340-715-5506.
