Man, After Being Shot In JFK Housing, Runs To Gas Station For Safety

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / September 19, 2016

ST. CROIX — Following the barrage of gunfire that enveloped the Golden Rock area and multiple other communities here on Saturday night, a man living in the John F. Kennedy Housing Community was shot in his leg on Sunday morning, but managed to escape death, as he evaded the suspect by running out of the community and to a nearby gas station, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer confirmed to The Consortium on Sunday, following multiple reports that came into the publication’s inbox, and even a moment-by-moment account of the incident on its Facebook page.

According to Mr. Dratte, the 911 emergency call center received notification that at about 9:30 a.m., a man was shot in the J.F.K. Housing Community. Upon arrival to the scene, police found the individual — who had ran to the One Love Gas Station in Golden Rock — with a gunshot wound in his leg. He was immediately transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for medical attention via ambulance.

The victim, who police say is in stable condition, told officers that the incident occurred when he visited his family’s apartment. After being there for 30 minutes, a man dressed all in black and wearing a mask, started shooting after him. The victim then ran for his life.

Police say they are continuing their investigation into the incident. The force is also asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340 778-2211 or (340) 712 6106, the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers VI at 1 800 222 TIPS (8477), or 911.
