ST. THOMAS — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations held its first Global Entry enrollment event in St. Thomas on October 14-15 at the Cyril E. King Airport at the CBP airport security office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., CBP announced this afternoon.
Forty-seven Virgin Islands residents and visitors came out to take advantage of the convenient opportunity to join Global Entry without having to travel for the enrollment interview, according to the release.
Global Entry is a Trusted Traveler program that makes international travel easier for its low-risk pre-approved members by allowing them to use kiosks for CBP processing instead of having to stand and wait in the regular lines, CBP says. Global Entry members also enjoy TSA pre-check benefits; meaning they can also speed through TSA security at all participating airports, using a designated fast lane without having to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts and light jackets.
“We are pleased with the turn out for the first Global Entry Mobile Enrollment conducted here in the US Virgin Islands,” stated Assistant Area Port Director Todd Bellew. “The mobile enrollment provided a convenient option for US Virgin Islands residents and visitors interested in applying for Global Entry to complete their application process without having to travel elsewhere for their interview.”
Many participants stated that they were very pleased with the opportunity of completing their applications here and hope that CBP would host future Global Entry Enrollment opportunities in the territory, according to the release.
The successful event was part of a San Juan Field Office initiative that intends to set a Remote Enrollment Center in the USVI so locals can benefit from regularly scheduled enrollment events without having to travel to San Juan to become members, the release concluded.
