TERRITORY-WIDE — Come Tuesday, citizens of the U.S. Virgin Islands will go to the polls in St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John to vote for candidates of their choice. This will happen in tandem with U.S. mainland citizens, who are currently enthralled in a battle royal race between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and Republican nominee Donald Trump. The Consortium will have results of both the local and presidential elections as they come in.
Polling Places
Some polling places, which is where citizens go to vote, have been changed due to some being shuttered for various reasons. We’ve compiled the updated list courtesy the Elections System of the Virgin Islands, to help simplify your voting process.
St. Croix Polling Places
- Dunstan’s Episcopal School poll will serve the Elena Christian and John F. Kennedy polling precincts.
- Juanita Gardine poll will serve the Juanita Gardine polling precinct
- D.C. Canegata Recreation Center poll will serve the Florence Williams and Pearl B. Larsen polling precincts
- Lew Muckle poll will serve the Lew Muckle polling precinct
- Ricardo Richards poll will serve the Ricardo Richards polling precinct
- Alfredo Andrews poll will serve the Alfredo Andrews polling precinct
- St. Croix Educational Complex poll will serve the Evelyn Williams, Charles H. Emmuel and St. Croix Educational Complex polling precincts
- Eulalie Rivera poll will serve the Eulalie Rivera polling precinct
- Alexander Henderson poll will serve the Alexander Henderson polling precinct
- Claude O. Markoe poll will serve the Claude O. Markoe polling precinct
Note: The Charles H. Emanuel polling place is officially closed and is now part of the St. Croix Educational Complex precinct. Also officially closed is the Gerard’s Hall poll, which is now part of the Claude O. Markoe precinct, according to the Elections System.
St. Thomas-St. John District
- Bertha Boschulte poll will serve the Ivanna Eudora Kean and Bertha Boschulte polling precincts
- Joseph Gomez poll will serve the Joseph Gomez polling (F-N) precinct
- Charles W. Turnbull Library poll will serve the Curriculum Center and Annas Center (O-Z) and E. Benjamin Oliver (A-E) polling precincts.
- C.A.H.S. Gymnasium poll will serve the C.A.H.S. Gym and Sibilly (A and B) polling precincts
- Oswald Harris Court poll will serve the Oswald Harris polling precinct
- Winston Raymo Center poll will serve the Winston Raymo polling precinct
- Glady’s Abraham poll will serve the Glady’s Abraham and Ulla Muller (A-L) polling precincts
- Addelita Cancryn poll will serve the Addelita Cancryn and Leonard Dober (North and South) and Ulla Muller (M-Z) polling precincts
- Julius Sprauve poll will serve the Julius Sprauve polling precinct
- Calabash Boom Community Center poll will serve the Guy Benjamin polling precinct
Note: As listed above, E. Benjamin Oliver poll is officially closed and has merged with Charles W. Turnbull poll as the official precinct; Ulla Muller (A-L) is officially closed and has merged with Gladys Abraham poll as the official precinct; Ulla Muller (M-Z) is officially closed and has merged with Addelita Cancryn poll as the official precinct; the Guy Benjamin poll is officially closed and voters will vote at the Calabash Boom poll (unofficial precinct).
VITRAN
The Elections System on Friday made known via press release that VITRAN will be operating regular hours on Tuesday, serving as an option for citizens without transportation to get to their respective polling places. VITRAN will run from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., according to the release.
By appointment only, VITRAN’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transit unit will transport seniors and special needs citizens directly to polling places. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance by calling (340) 773- 1290 and request VITRAN. The special service was granted by Department of Public Works Commissioner Gustav James, upon request by Lilliana Belardo de O’Neal, chairwoman of the St. Croix Board of Elections. It was not clear whether the special service would be made available to St. Thomas-St. John District citizens, but interested persons should call 340-774-5678.
