A weather system in the Atlantic will bring heavy rainfall to the U.S. Virgin Islands in the next few days, the National Hurricane Center has said in its latest advisory on the system. The rainfall has already started.
According to N.H.C.’s 1:00 a.m. report, shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave that is moving through the Leeward Islands has continued to become less organized, diminishing chances of stronger and more organized development. Environmental conditions are not expected to become significantly better for development, and the system is also expected to interact with the islands of the Greater Antilles during the next few days.
Therefore, the potential for this system to become a tropical or subtropical cyclone continues to decrease. Regardless of development, though, the system is forecast to bring locally heavy rainfall to portions of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico over the next few days.
There is, however, still a small chance that the system could develop, though it has decreased from 90 percent in the past few days, to 40 percent through the next five days.
