ST. CROIX — The Department of Education this morning confirmed to The Consortium that all St. Croix public schools are open today. The department had shuttered at least six schools yesterday due to smoke accumulation from the overnight fire that destroyed H.H. Tire & Battery in the wee hours of Monday.
The smoke had adversely affected the air quality of a number of schools westward of the business, D.O.E. said on Monday.
“All St. Croix schools are in session today. The Department of Education wishes everyone a safe and productive school day,” reads a short statement issued to this publication this morning by Cynthia Graham, D.O.E. director of public relations and communications.
