Woman Arrested For Attempting To Smuggle Marijuana In Jordan Sneakers To Golden Grove Inmate, Police Say

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / December 12, 2016

ST. CROIX — A woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Golden Grove Correctional Facility for an inmate, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Monday.

Mr. Dratte said the suspect, 28-year-old Sherifa Petersen, above, was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center after Bureau of Corrections officers smelled marijuana coming from a clear plastic bag that Ms. Petersen brought for the inmate. The bag included clothes and shoes, according to Mr. Dratte, but two corrections officers smelled the distinct scent of marijuana emanating from the bag.

The officers decided to inspect the plastic bag further, and determined that the scent was coming from a black pair of Jordan sneakers. They decided to dissect the sneakers and two small, clear plastic bags dropped from the sole of the sneakers with a green, leafy substance in them, according to Mr. Dratte.

The substance tested positive for marijuana, according to Mr. Dratte. Ms. Petersen was arrested for introduction of narcotics into the prison.
