Power Outage At Charles Harwood Health Facility Causes Early Dismissal

Health / News / Virgin Islands / January 10, 2017

ST. CROIX — A power outage at the Charles Harwood Medical Complex in Richmond forced the early dismissal of employees, Department of Health Director of Public Relations Nykole Tyson made known on Monday.

Ms. Tyson said the power outage — which blew D.O.H.’s transfer switch — did not only affect the clinic, but also the neighboring areas.  As a result there was no electricity at the Charles Harwood Complex, and all staff were dismissed at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. All appointments were rescheduled as needed, and all clinical items needing refrigeration were secured using alternate accommodation, according to Ms. Tyson.

She said the facility’s executive team walked the halls of the complex notifying/updating all staff and clients. Ms. Tyson also said that a technician had assessed the damage and was repairing the the transfer switch.

Normal operations at the clinic is expected to resume today. D.O.H. said it regrets any inconvenience the outage may have caused.
