Celebrity Summit Makes Unexpected Call To St. Croix

News / Tourism / Virgin Islands / April 19, 2017

ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Port Authority said this morning it received notice today that Celebrity Summit diverted from Antigua to visit St. Croix instead.

A reason for the diversion was not divulged, and it was not clear whether V.I.P.A. officials were given a reason for the unexpected call. But the ship was to arrive at the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility in Frederiksted at 11:00 a.m. today, said VIPA’s Acting Executive Director David W. Mapp.

“The Summit was scheduled for repairs earlier this month and was forced to cancel its call to St. Croix, so this unexpected diversion is a welcome one for the Port Authority and the tourism-related businesses on the island,” Mr. Mapp said. He added that the time of the ship’s departure was not provided.

The Summit is a millennium-class ship with a capacity of 2,158 passengers and 999 crew.
