DOH Launches Electronic Birth And Death Records System

Featured / News / Virgin Islands / June 12, 2017

ST. THOMAS — The Department of Health announced on Monday the implementation of the Office of Vital Records and Statistics, Vital Records Information Management System (VRIMS), which went live last week.

According the D.O.H. release, VRIMS is an integrated web-based software solution developed to support the administration of an electronic natality and mortality registry. According to the release, D.O.H. Commissioner Michelle S. Davis has been a strong supporter of all USVI inter-agency collaborative projects with a focus on improving the ability to provide real-time data to drive policy decisions that impact the health of residents.

“The implementation of the VRIMS systems brings the territory one step closer to mirroring electronic birth and death systems on the national level. This information will better position the Department of Health to identify disease burden and develop appropriate prevention programs,” Ms. Davis said.

This system is the result of a collaborative effort between the Department of Health and the Department of Education, as part of the Virgin Islands Virtual Information Systems (VIVIS), Early Childhood Domain, according to the release. The goal is to provide usable, timely and accurate data accessible to D.O.H.’s relevant stakeholders and other government agencies.

VRIMS facilitates the collection and dissemination of data used to improve health and educational outcomes in the territory.
