ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department has found what was described to The Consortium by V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte as a “badly burned car,” believed to be that of Lyana Serieux, who, along with her two children went missing on Friday.
Mr. Dratte said the vehicle was found “in the Upper Love area,” and was “greatly” believed by the force to be that of Ms. Serieux. He did not say exactly where in Upper Love the vehicle was found. Police were able to match at least some of the vehicle’s VIN number, but because it was so badly burned, forensic officers were still attempting to get a clear match.
The vehicle matched the description of the car that Ms. Serieux was last seen in: a 2011 Silver Toyota Yaris with license plate number is CFR 304.
The case has united the St. Croix community and has touched off on a wave of emotions. Groups have formed search parties in an effort to find Ms. Serieux and her two boys. The V.I.P.D. will be forming its own search party this morning at 9:00 a.m., and is calling on volunteers to gather with officers at the Patrick Sweeney headquarters in Golden Grove near the Bureau of Motor Vehicle (B.M.V.).
Officers were out all night and in the wee hours of Tuesday morning conducting a search. They were out again today at 6:00 a.m. and are currently scouring the island in search of the missing 24-year-old, and her two children, 10-year-old Jordan Serieux and 5-year-old Jeremiah Serieux.
Press briefing
The V.I.P.D. will be hosting a press briefing on the case at 10:30 a.m. today at its Mars Hill headquarters in Frederiksted, in the police commissioner’s conference room. There, the department will address the community on the latest developments and the force’s efforts on the case.
The Consortium will attempt to bring the press briefing live on its Facebook platform, pending internet access at the V.I.P.D. is adequate.
