Hurricane Irma-Related Closures So Far

Private and public sector operations are either closing altogether on Tuesday, or early. We’ll include all the information in this post. Keep checking back for updates:

Schools

All public schools are closed on Tuesday, Sept. 5 until further notice

Reading Rainbow School will be closed on Tuesday and possibly for the week, according to the school.


Beginning Tuesday, classes at the Moravian School are canceled. Teachers and staff members are required to report to school no later than 9:00 a.m. tomorrow to secure the classrooms and general premises of the school.


St. Croix Christian Academy will be closed tomorrow, Sept 5th. Please listen to the media for school opening after the storm.

Businesses and Organizations


Due to potential weather, the Paradise Chiropractic and Wellness Center will be closing early Tuesday night, the business said. Each location will be contacting everyone who’s appointment will be affected. P.C.W.C. says it will give an update on reopening hours.


The St. Thomas East End Medical Center Corporation will close at 1pm on Tuesday, September 5th due to the anticipated arrival of hurricane Irma. The health center will remain closed on Wednesday, September 6th and will resume services following an internal damage assessment and after an official  ‘all clear’ is announced by public authorities.

Appointments will be rescheduled and patients are asked to contact the health center at 340-775-3700 for inquiries, but listen for a public advisory about when the health center will reopen.


Virgin Islands Ear, Nose & Throat as well as the St Thomas and Virgin Island Sleep Centers will be closed on both St. Thomas and St. Croix Tuesday and Wednesday. We hope to reopen at 12:00 noon on Thursday.

Viya’s Customer Experience Centers will have abbreviated hours on
Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Due to the anticipated arrival of Hurricane
Irma within the next 48 hours, on Tuesday all of Viya’s Customer
Experience Centers in the Territory will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00
p.m.
Viya’s Chief Executive Officer Alvaro Pilar stated, “Viya is very concerned
about our community, customers and our hardworking employees as we
face uncertainty with Hurricane Irma. We want to ensure that we serve our
customers and allow our employees to secure their homes and families.
For those reasons, we will be closing early on September 5th.”
Viya’s Customer Experience Centers at Tutu Park on St. Thomas and at
Estate Diamond on St. Croix are usually open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
Monday through Friday and on Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The
Center at the Marketplace in St. John is normally open Monday through
Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. At the Customer Experience Center, Viya
subscribers can obtain information on products and services, make
changes to their account and address other operational matters. Customers
should call Customer Care and Service Repairs at (340) 777-Viya (8492).
Pilar concluded, “On behalf of the Viya family, we wish our families, friends

serving you again in the near future. Be safe.”

Banco Popular has temporarily changed operating hours at our branches due to the passing of Hurricane Irma. The bank said it would open for regular business hours on Tuesday except for the following:
– Hibiscus Alley Branch in St. Thomas will close at 12 noon.
– The Tortola branch will close at 12 noon.
All operations will close on Wednesday.

Remember that the tools of Online Banking and/or Mi Banco Mobile App are at your disposal to check balances and make transactions.


The St. Thomas branch of Merchants Commercial Bank will be open from 9am-4pm Tuesday, September 5th. The St. John branch will close early, at 3:30pm.

In anticipation of Hurricane Irma, both branches will be closed on Wednesday, September 6th.

An announcement regarding the resumption of banking services will be made once the storm concludes and an assessment of facilities can be made. Clients are encouraged to monitor all public radio stations, and the bank’s website (www.merchantscommercial.bank)  for further announcements regarding the resumption of banking services.

Chief Justice Rhys S. Hodge wishes to advise the general public and members of the Virgin Islands Bar that the Judicial Branch of the Virgin Islands will be closed to the public at noon on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in final preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Irma.

Supreme Court: All systems will be taken offline at noon today. Accordingly, the Supreme Court’s electronic filing system (“VISCEFS”) will be not be available. As a result, filings will be accepted via secured lock-box at both locations for all time sensitive matters and court imposed deadlines, which will be decided on a case by case basis.

Superior Court: All previously calendared matters and Advice of Rights will be heard and or rescheduled to conform with this closure. All filings for the Superior Court will be accepted in the Clerk’s Office until noon today. Thereafter, filings will be accepted via secured lock-box at both locations for all time sensitive matters and court imposed deadlines, which will be decided on a case by case basis.

As of the last update, Hurricane Irma is now a Category 5 Hurricane. All court facilities will be closed from noon today through Thursday, September 7, 2017 to allow sufficient time for assessments to be made. The Judicial Branch will resume normal operations on Friday, September 8, 2017.


In light of Hurricane Irma’s current path, all AT&T stores in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be closed tomorrow, Sept. 6; re-opening date to be determined following the storm.


Due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Irma, the St. George Village Botanical Garden will be closed until Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.


Christiansted National Historic Site has begun shut down procedures for the three National Park units on St. Croix, including Buck Island Reef National Monument and Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, for today, September 4, 2017. The parks are closed today, and will remain closed until further notice. All facility and Concessioner operations will remain closed until further notice. Once Hurricane Irma passes NPS staff will assess any damages and determine when the parks can be safely opened.

FirstBank wishes to inform the general public of the amended branch hours for today Tuesday, September 5, 2017 and Wednesday, September 6, 2017.
