News / Virgin Islands / November 17, 2017

ST. THOMAS — A group of St. Thomas churches have teamed up for what is expected to be a massive drive to provide relief for thousands of Virgin Islanders affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The effort, which runs from Sunday through the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, aims to provide 15,000 people with food supplies through the course of three nights, according to details of the event provide to The Consortium by Laurika Jude, who helps the group of churches with public relations.

The event, to be held at the Fort Christian parking lot in St. Thomas, will include music, motivational speeches and testimonies from local persons and visiting guests, according to Ms. Jude. Among the guests will be Ken Weeathersby, vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention; Ellis Wyms, former defensive tackle of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks; Bishop Kenny Berry, former player of the San Diego Chargers; Roy and Nia Cotton of Dallas, TX, worship leaders at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (Dr. Tony Evans church); and recording artist, Shavaun Jackson.

Residents are encouraged to come out to the pre-Thanksgiving affair not only for the supplies, but also to be motivated and encouraged. The event will start each night at 6:00 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m.
