Viya, the longstanding Virgin Islands communications and entertainment company which endured a battering during Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and has been working feverishly to reconnect its Internet, cable and cellular phone customers, said late Wednesday that it will launch its long-awaited 4G LTE network on Monday, which the company says will eclipse competitors Sprint and AT&T.
“The new Viya 4G LTE network is officially launching across St. Croix and St. Thomas, and will be the territory’s best network,” Viya said. “You have been patiently waiting for the world-class wireless network you deserve, and we couldn’t be more excited to be bringing it to the USVI during the week of November 27.”
Viya said it invested $15 million in state-of-the-art equipment, which the company promises will offer the most coverage, most reliability and most speed in the Virgin Islands.
“With this new network, we have put together brand new and exciting rate plans — all with great features like no contracts, unlimited nationwide calling (including PR, the mainland United States and Canada), flexible data and optional add-on packages for more video, social media or music. Our unlimited plan even includes an extra 10GB of data per month exclusively for hotspotting other devices in your home or on the go,” the company said.
To usher in the launch of the new network, Viya said it will be offering “incredible” discounts and deals on rate plans and devices. “AT&T and Sprint won’t be able to keep up,” the company said.
Viya did not reveal whether some of the most sought-after mobile devices — including iPhone 8, 8plus and X — would be available on its network (the Apple phones are conspicuously missing from Viya’s promo page). But the iPhones’ equals, the Galaxy 8plus and the Galaxy Note 8, are available.
