The ninth annual Dominican Republican Independence Day parade was held in Christiansted today. D.R. will mark its independence from various nations, including the United States, which had control of the Caribbean island from 1916 to 1924, on February 27. St. Croix residents of Dominican descent, along with other locals traditionally participate in the event.
Watch scenes of today’s parade — which kicked off at Basin Triangle and wove through downtown Christiansted, as participants danced and waved to on-lookers on either side of main street.
