Lockhart Elementary Receives Donation From Cruise Line

Education / News / Virgin Islands / March 19, 2018

ST. THOMAS — Lockhart Elementary School received two donations from Holland America Line’s MS Prinsendam docked at WICO on Friday, March 9, the Department of Education has announced.

The Prinsendam crew presented the first donation in the amount of $5, 172 to Education Development Director Steven Walters on behalf of the school’s principal Audrey Bowry and a handful of her students aboard the ship. The money was raised through an art auction that took place in the ship’s art gallery during its voyage.

Following the presentation by the crew, the students and Education officials in attendance were treated to lunch on the ship’s main deck where they enjoyed a buffet selection of international dishes.

Following a hearty lunch, the Prinsendam crew took the Education group on a grand tour of the vessel. Approaching the end of the tour, the crew then gifted the school all of the monies collected in the drop-in box at the guest services desk.

The monies donated to Lockhart Elementary will benefit the school’s art program to purchase supplies for students.

The donation effort was coordinated in partnership with the Department of Tourism.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
