At the Government Employees’ Retirement System building on St. Croix Tuesday, CEOs and directors of nonprofit organizations voiced their concerns with a recent government decision to halt funding, citing liquidity issues. Since the meeting, organized by the Senate Committee on Health, Hospitals and Human Services, chaired by Senator Nereida Rivera-O’Reilly and portions of which was broadcast live on The Consortium, Governor Kenneth Mapp has announced that the Office of Management and Budget — which wrote a letter to the Department of Human Services announcing the halting of funds (the same letter that ignited the controversy) — would resume releasing long overdue funding to the nonprofits in the next several weeks.
