Shooting In Williams Delight Leaves One Dead

ST. CROIX — A man was shot dead in Williams Delight while riding his bicycle on Sunday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Tuesday evening.

According to Mr. Dratte, a call was placed to the 911 emergency call center at 11:26 p.m. Sunday, in reference to the discharging of shots in the Williams Delight housing community.

Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, they discovered a responsive Hispanic male lying on the ground, with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds about his body, Mr. Dratte said.

The victim was rushed to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency treatment, but succumbed to his injuries at the medical facility, according to Mr. Dratte.

The victim, identified as 46-year-old Raymond Melendez, was said to have been shot by one or more assailants while riding his bicycle during the nighttime. Police say the incident is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigations Bureau (C.I.B.).
