ST. CROIX — The body of a man was discovered on Sunday night in the Diamond Crest Plaza parking lot behind the Gas for Less Service Station located across from Sunny Isle, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced via release Monday afternoon.
According to Mr. Dratte, at about 11:26 p.m. on Sunday, a resident called the 911 emergency call center to report that a lifeless body was lying in the Diamond Crest Plaza parking lot area.
Officers and emergency medical technicians responded to the scene and discovered the body, and found that the victim, a male, had no vital signs. Mr. Dratte said there were no reports of gunshots going off, however police recovered shell casings in the area.
According to Mr. Dratte, the victim, identified by next of kin as 28-year-old Miguel Angel Cruz, was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Consortium has learned that Mr. Cruz had only recently been released from prison, and was a father of 4 children.
