ST. CROIX — Two men were shot Friday afternoon in the Bethlehem Village Housing Community (also called Harvey Project) in Estate Profit, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced. One of the two shooting victims succumbed to his wounds, Mr. Dratte said, as the wave of violent crimes affecting St. Croix this month continues.
According to Mr. Dratte, today at approximately 12:59 p.m., concerned residents called the 911 emergency call center and reported discharging of shots in Bethlehem Village Housing Community.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers discovered an unresponsive male victim with multiple gunshot wounds about his body, Mr. Dratte said. He added that medical attendants on the scene were unable to locate any vital signs on the victim.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 28-year-old Akeem Herbert.
Officers also discovered another victim who was shot in the lower body. The victim, also a male, was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and was immediately taken into surgery, according to Mr. Dratte.
Mr. Dratte said the incident is under active investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. C.I.B. is asking anyone with information on this shooting or any other to call 340-778-2211, or Crime stoppers VI here.
