VI Casino Control Commission Chairperson Ann Violet Golden was one of multiple family members stabbed in Cypress, Texas on Saturday, The Consortium can confirm. The attack came from a family member, Ms. Golden’s nephew, who is suffering with a mental illness.

The suspect, 25-year-old Benjamin Walker, punched his father, then stabbed his mother and sister. He was being held in Harris County jail after failing to make bail of $200,000, according to multiple media reports in Cypress, Texas.

According to Cypress police, Mr. Walker started the morning with erratic behavior and even poured a glass of water into a cable box. His father tried to stop him, and that was when Mr. Walker punched his father and grabbed a knife.

Cypress police said Mr. Walker then attacked his mother and sister along with an elderly relative who was also inside the home, located in Pricewood Manor Court.

The injured family members ran to a neighbor’s house for safety, where they were also able to call 911 for assistance.

Mr. Walker, who was found walking down a street, was taken into custody without incident, according to Cypress police. Ms. Golden and her sister, who is Mr. Walker’s mother, were transported to the hospital for treatment, with at least one family member suffering life-threatening injuries. Texas reports say both Ms. Golden and her sister are expected to recover.

Ms. Golden has been in Texas for sometime now receiving care for osteoarthritis, a disease that occurs when the cartilage or cushion between joints breaks down leading to pain, stiffness and swelling.
