ST. CROIX — A man was found lying lifeless, face up on the ground in a grassy area near a home in Williams Delight on Tuesday night after being shot multiple times, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte confirmed to The Consortium late Tuesday.
The Consortium was informed by a resident of Williams Delight about more than 20 shots being discharged, which this person said was followed by the presence of two ambulances and multiple emergency medical technicians (E.M.T.s) on the crime scene.
Mr. Dratte told The Consortium that the incident occurred minutes before the 8:00 p.m. hour, and that a resident called 911 to place a report at about 7:56 p.m.
Mr. Dratte said officers responded to the crime scene and found a male victim lying on the ground near a home in Williams Delight. The victim was lying face up in a grassy area, according to Mr. Dratte, who added that E.M.T.s on the scene examined the body for signs of life but found none.
The victim was identified by next of kin as Richard R. Christopher. He was 45.
Mr. Dratte said as of late Tuesday, no suspect was in custody, however, the case remains under active investigation, he said.
