Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Devin Carrington has come out swinging against a video published on social media that some in the community have said includes the commissioner and a woman. The commissioner has vehemently denied being the man seen in the video.
“There is currently circulating on social media a video purporting to depict me, Commissioner Devin Carrington. I state unequivocally that the person depicted in the video is not me. The footage is fraudulent propaganda, designed to fool members of the public,” Mr. Carrington said in a statement issued Wednesday.
“The act of posting this video that attempts to discredit me personally, the office I hold, and by extension the Government of the US Virgin Islands, is despicable and clearly done with malicious intent. It shows the depths people go to attempt to destroy another human being,” Mr. Carrington added.
The video shows a man performing oral sex on a woman on what appears to be an office desk. Community members believe the space to be a government office, a belief that has added revulsion to the act. Others say the video appears to have been shot in a real estate office, as the walls in the office include pictures of what appear to be homes for sale.
Mr. Carrington said the publishing of the video “speaks to how the otherwise beneficial tool called social media, when used irresponsibly, can be extremely dangerous and potentially destructive.” And he called on those responsible to cease and desist immediately, adding, “those responsible shall be held accountable.”
While this publication does not know when exactly the video was published, talk about it started sometime Tuesday night. Thereafter, it spread quickly on WhatsApp. The origin of the video remains unknown.
