ST. CROIX — A vehicle assigned to the security detail of Government House on St. Croix was involved in a car accident this morning in the vicinity of the Gateway Gas Station in Peter’s Rest, Government House has confirmed.

The accident, which occurred after the 7:00 a.m. hour, involved a black Ford Explorer and a white Jeep Patriot, according to pictures of the accident provided to The Consortium. While the front end of the Ford Explorer belonging to the government was damaged, the Jeep Patriot was completely mangled as a result of the accident, the pictures show.

According to Government House, the executive security unit operating the government vehicle was not injured. However, the occupants of the Jeep Patriot were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.

Government House did not disclose the cause of the accident.

The V.I.P.D.’s traffic division is investigating the incident.
