ST. THOMAS — An auto collision on the St. Thomas waterfront in Charlotte Amalie left a 72-year-old woman dead, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced. The accident sent one vehicle crashing into the ocean, and a video showing the vehicle in the water and slowly being submerged was posted online.
According to Mr. Dratte, on Friday at approximately 6:39 a.m., a female individual was operating a Nissan Murano heading eastward on Veterans Drive, while a van was headed westward. The vehicles collided and the Nissan Murano continued onto the waterfront apron and into the water.
The woman, 72, was pulled from the submerged vehicle and was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Medical Center, where she received treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries sustained from the accident, according to Mr. Dratte.
The victim was identified by next of kin as Evelyn Edwards.
