Centered about 30 miles northwest of Charlotte Amalie, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake rocked the Virgin Islands, shaking buildings for about 10 seconds just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday night.
The good news is that there were no reports of damage by the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Tsunami Warnings Center said there was no tsunami danger.
According to some St. Croix residents, posting their experiences on Facebook, the movement was readily felt across the Island, however no injuries have been reported, according to VITEMA’s 911 Emergency Communications Center.
The epicenter was located at Latitude 18.7 degrees north and Longitude 65.1 degrees west, at a depth of about 24 miles, according to VI Alert.
