In an effort to keep the community safe during the Labor Day weekend festivities, the Virgin Islands Police Department will be cracking down on drunk driving from August 15th until September 1st.
The department will join nationwide efforts to quell drunk driving by “aggressively” searching for impaired drivers, and will arrest anyone caught while under the influence of alcohol.
“What we’re having is a crackdown on drunk driving from August 15th to September 1st,” said the VIPD’s Barbara Fleming, “so we’re trying to educate the public, inform them that if they drink, please have someone to drive.”
She added: “Please have a sober driver — that’s the message: ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.’ Fleming also revealed that the V.I.P.D. will have checkpoints in “strategic locations”.
According to the V.I.P.D., 2014 has already seen 16 more DUI incidents that all of 2013.
