ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Frenchtown near the annual Father’s Day event that left a women injured, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced on Tuesday.
According to Jackson, on June 21 at around 12:31 a.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of a shots being fired in Frenchtown and immediately notified police. Arriving on the scene, officers met with a woman who said she was making her way to the Frenchtown Father’s Day activities, and heard several gunshots rang out and saw a black male with dreadlocks firing shots in the vicinity.
The woman, feeling a burning sensation on her thigh, suddenly realized that she’d been grazed by one of the shots fired, and proceeded to flee the area.
The victim refused medical attention on the scene and said she would travel to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment in her own vehicle.
The VIPD is asking anyone with information about this occurrence to phone 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477. Information provided will be kept in the strictest confidence, according to the release.
