ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Police Department this afternoon announced that a man was shot dead in the wee hours of Monday morning in Bolongo Bay.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, the 911 emergency call center received a call from a concerned citizen at about 3:33 Monday morning, who reported that gunshots had been fired in the Bolongo Estate area.

Upon arrival to the scene, an officer observed a male victim sitting behind the driver’s seat of the vehicle, above, with what appeared to be blood on his clothing and body. Medical examiners later determined that the man, who police has identified as 41-year-old Niyen Jamil, had been shot multiple times and died on the scene.
