ST. CROIX — The second drowning incident in one week occurred last night at about 6:45 p.m. at the Frederiksted Pier, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon. The first occurred a few days ago at Cramer Park on the east end of this island.
According to the report, a friend of the drowned male victim explained to the officers that the two of them had jumped off of the pier into the water, however as his head emerged from the water, he noticed his friend gasping for air.
While attempting to help his friend, the victim began to panic and started pulling him down into the water as well.

Hearing the plea for assistance, the group donned their gear and dove into the waters, located the distressed man and brought him to the surface. Members of the VIPD, VI Fire Service and St. Croix Rescue took turns administering CPR to the man to no avail.
The victim’s body was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center by ambulance, where medics made several attempts to resuscitate the man but failed.
He was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m.
