The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 27, out of an abundance of caution, as Tropical Storm Erika is expected to impact the territory on Thursday, according to a press release UVI issued late Wednesday.
UVI employees are advised to secure their work areas before the close of business today. All essential employees, including Physical Plant employees, should report to work at their usual reporting time until further notice.
UVI students and faculty are advised that there will be no classes on Thursday, Aug. 27. However, there are no disruptions to classes on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
A tropical storm watch is in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. advisory, Tropical Storm Erika has maximum winds near 45 miles per hour with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.
The UVI community is asked to be vigilant and monitor all forms of communication.
