ST. CROIX — A man who was shot in Frederiskted this morning lived to tell the story after a suspect in what was described as a “heavily tinted” vehicle started firing shots at him, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson made known this afternoon.
According to Jackson, today at about 9:44 a.m., an off-duty officer called in via radio to report that he’d just made contact with a vehicle transporting a gunshot victim to the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s emergency room, and was in the process of assisting with escort.
Officers and detectives responded to the hospital and made contact with the victim, a 21-year-old male, who indicated that he was walking out of the Walter IM Hodge Pavilion when he saw a black, heavily tinted vehicle approach him. The victim added that as the vehicle came nearer, the driver’s side window lowered and a gun was pointed in his direction.
Several shots were discharged as the victim began to run from the vehicle and realized that he had been struck by a bullet.
Seeking help, the victim stopped a vehicle that was passing by, pleaded for a ride to the hospital, and the operator of the vehicle transported him to JFL for treatment.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg, was treated and was under observation at the medical facility.
