ST. CROIX — A man lost his life after losing control of a moped/scooter that he was riding and crashed head-on into a vehicle heading West, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon.
According to Jackson, on Wednesday at about 3:13 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of a vehicular accident that occurred on the East End Road in the vicinity of Ms. Bea Road.
Mr. Jackson said two of the vehicle’s passengers were taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center by ambulance following the accident for treatment and observation, as well as the operator of the scooter.
Mr. Jackson further stated that the condition of the vehicle’s two passengers remains unknown; however, the operator of the moped, later identified as James Jenk, 65, of Alabama, succumbed to his injuries sometime after 11:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The matter is under investigation by the VIPD’s Traffic Division.
