Employees of the Juan F. Luis Hospital have had enough. The hospital’s infrastructure is crumbling, there’s only one functional operating room, some restrooms are not working, employees have not seen pay raises in years. Yet employees say the one lifeline the hospital received — a $39.5 million windfall from Medicaid for fiscal years 2011-2013 after audit reports and ratings — is being taken away from the hospital through a Senate bill for use elsewhere. Their message to Governor Albert Bryan and senators is: kill the bill, allow the money to be used to meet many of the hospital’s needs, or face being voted out next election. Watch.
