ST. CROIX — Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter left the territory on Saturday to attend the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (N.A.I.C.) Spring 2016 National Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, a press release issued by Mr. Potter’s office has made known.
The conference will host insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the 5 U.S. territories, according to the release. Mr. Potter serves as the territory’s Commissioner of Insurance.
Through the N.A.I.C., state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer review, and coordinate their regulatory oversight.
In accordance with the Revised Organic Act, and in the absence of Senate President Neville James who is also out of the territory, Senate Vice-President Janette Millin Young will serve as Acting Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Potter will return to the territory on April 7, 2016.
