ST. CROIX — The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation (D.S.P.R.) revealed on Friday that it sent 29 youngsters from the territory — 16 from the St. Thomas-St. John district and 13 from St. Croix — to a professional two-day baseball showcase hosted in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The department said the move was to help the islands’ youth take advantage of athletic opportunities that come available. They returned home on Sunday.
“This baseball showcase is a great opportunity for our young baseball players. They will receive inspiration, orientation, and valuable information from professional Major League Baseball Players and University Scouts”, D.S.P.R. Commissioner Pedro Cruz said.
Mr. Cruz added that tryouts would be held to identify the young athletes who have the potential to advance to higher competitive levels in baseball. “We wish the best of luck to each of our youngsters participating in this baseball talent search, and hope that they meet their goals,” he said.
D.S.P.R. thanked the coaches involved in training and congratulated each player who made the trip to P.R. Mr. Cruz concluded by stating that D.S.P.R. would continue developing sports programs that help children and youth become ready for opportunities such as this.
