ST. THOMAS — Two suspects walked up to a vehicle and started firing shots at the male driver on Friday just after 7:00 p.m. in the Bovoni area, Police Commissioner Delroy Richards told The Consortium.
The incident left the male victim critically wounded and his 4-year-old son grazed in the left arm, according to Mr. Richards. A woman was also in the vehicle, but she was unharmed. All victims were at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital receiving treatment, and plans were being made to fly the critically wounded victim out of the territory, according to the commissioner.
Mr. Richards said that after the suspects began firing shots, the driver attempted to escape the hail of gunfire and he ran into an electrical pole. He sustained bullet fragments to the head.
“Even though he’s responsive, they’re trying to get him off the island for treatment,” Mr. Richards said.
The commissioner said police have initiated a manhunt for the suspects as they were able to identify them based on information provided.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information relative to this incident to contact the Task Force at (340) 774-2211 extensions 5617 and 5554. They can also call 911, Crime Stoppers VI, the Commissioner’s Office at (340)715-5506 and the Chief’s Office at (340)715-5548.
Correction: May 7, 2015
A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the woman involved in last night’s incident was the wounded 4-year-old’s mother. The story has been updated to reflect the correct information.
