St. Thomas Man Shot Multiple Times Near Grocery Store

ST. THOMAS — A man was shot multiple times while standing outside a grocery store located in Hospital Ground, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced on Saturday.

Ms. Freeman said at roughly 7:52 p.m., the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the Lima Grocery Store in Hospital Ground, after reports of gunfire were made.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers made contact with the victim, who was later identified as Asymo Phipps, 27, of Hospital Ground. Mr. Phipps stated that he was standing near the store when he heard shots fired and immediately dropped to the ground. The victim said he did not see who fired shots, nor did he know in what direction they came from.

Mr. Phipps sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, thigh, and hip area during this incident. He was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital via ambulance and was taken into surgery.

Ms. Freeman said forensic detectives processed and took photos of the crime scene, as well as the injuries Mr. Phipps sustained during this incident.

This case is currently under active investigation by Criminal Investigation Bureau.
