ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man told police that he drove himself to the Schneider Regional Medical Center after being shot by another man in his upper left thigh, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Saturday.
Mr. Dratte said that on Thursday at about 1:00 p.m., officers responded to a gunshot victim being treated at the hospital’s emergency room. Upon their arrival, the officers made contact with the victim, who proceeded to explain what had occurred.
The victim, who police did not identify, said he had just arrived at his relative’s house in Estate Thomas, when he saw a black male individual approaching him with a gun. When the suspect came near the victim, a scuffle ensued and a shot was fired, leaving the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper left thigh.
The suspect then ran in an unknown direction after the incident, according to the victim. The victim then drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound.
Police say the case is presently under investigation by the Investigation Bureau. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the assailant to call (340) 774-2211 extensions 5617 and 5554.
