Man Rushed To Hospital In Private Vehicle After Being Shot In Christiansted Town

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / November 29, 2016

ST. CROIX — A man was shot in downtown Christiansted this morning by an unknown assailant, V.I.P.D. Public Information Glen Dratte has made known. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Buy Smart Mini Mart (Bienvenidos) on Company Street, resulting in the wounding of the victim, who was rushed to the hospital by private vehicle.

According to Mr. Dratte, at about at 9:16 a.m., police officers were dispatched by the 911 emergency call center to an incident that included the discharging of shots at the mini mart.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers encountered a green Chevy sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed. However, it was not the suspect trying to escape; the vehicle was traveling to the Juan F. Luis Hospital with the gunshot victim. The vehicle was then escorted to the medical facility by the Special Operations Bureau and Bike Patrol units, according to Mr. Dratte.

Patrol officers on the scene secured the area and the forensic unit gathered evidence. Mr. Dratte said police could not speak to the victim because he was undergoing treatment for his wounds and was unable to give a statement.

Police area asking anyone with knowledge that may lead to the arrest of individuals suspected of perpetrating criminal acts to contact 911, or Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may net you a payday.
