ST. CROIX — There were two accidents on this island in the wee hours of Saturday, according to 911 reports, which The Consortium has confirmed with V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.
The first incident involved Senator Positive Nelson, whose vehicle overturned while he was driving on Rattan road near the rusty tank at about 12:04 a.m. today, according to 911.
The incident was reported by a concerned citizen in the area, who stated that Mr. Nelson was walking around seemingly looking okay. The senator apparently did not request EMS, according to 911, but first responders came to his aid regardless.
The senator later posted pictures on his Facebook page showing the badly damaged vehicle, as well as himself wearing a neck cast — apparently at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center receiving treatment.
“God is Good! Yes, he is !!! Thank God!” Mr. Nelson posted on his Facebook page.
The second accident occurred at approximately 4:21 a.m. near Plaza Extra West, and involved a Kia-branded vehicle that was traveling east.
The vehicle crashed into a tree and caught on fire, according to 911. It included four passengers, all of whom were rescued. One of the four, however, was badly burned, according to 911. The badly burned victim had a low pulse, according to 911, citing EMS personnel, and was rushed to the hospital for care. The victim’s status was unknown at time of writing.

A previous version of this story quoted V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, who quoted 911 as stating that the victims of the second accident managed to exit the vehicle. New details, however, revealed that the accident victims were rescued by a brave National Guard soldier, and we have updated the story to reflect the correct information.
