St. Thomas Sees Second Homicide In 2017 Following Wednesday Shooting

ST. THOMAS — A second person has been killed in St. Thomas in 2017 through gun violence, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced Wednesday. The homicide follows another shooting death that occurred on January 1.

According to Ms. Freeman, at about 10:27 a.m. on Wednesday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of a gunshot victim in the area of Estate Thomas, and immediately dispatched police units to the scene. However, before officers could arrive to the area, the victim was already transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital via ambulance.

The victim, who police have identified as 23-year-old Lenny Hedrington, Jr., was shot once in the head and succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the case is currently under investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Homicide Task Force. The force is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of perpetrators to contact the Homicide Task Force at 340-774-2211 ext. 5569, 340-714-983, 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may net you a payday.
