ST. CROIX — The Juan F. Luis Hospital issued a release late Tuesday stating that while it was still under code yellow — a status alerting the community of an incident at the hospital — it maintains “full operation in all service lines.”
The hospital revealed on Monday that its drainage system was damaged. It said some of the sewage drain lines on the first floor were compromised, and JFL’s administration was notified about the drainage system issue shortly after 12:00 p.m. Monday. The release added that the executive team worked aggressively to resolve the issue, and when it was determined that additional resources were necessary, hospital officials initiated a code yellow at 5:50 p.m. Monday.
In its latest release, JFL said its facilities team has been collaborating with external agencies and local contractors to fix the problem. Drainage lines along the first floor were evaluated, and the hospital’s management team has been working on both a short-term and long-term plan to address the drainage issue, according to the release.
Non-essential employees’ administrative leave was extended to Wednesday, according to the release, which the hospital says is to allow for ongoing assessment of the system, and to limit the impact of the plumbing and piping system.
The hospital teamed up with various government entities both private and public — VITEMA, VI National Guard, VIWMA, Anthony Rogers, Cruzan Environmental, Norton Williams, OTL, and Anthony Plumbing — in addressing to the drainage problem.
JFL again apologized for any inconvenience caused by the problem.
