ST. THOMAS — The Smith Bay community has been affected for the second time in one day by the discharging of gunshots, with the latest — which occurred on Tuesday night — leaving one victim injured with multiple gunshot wounds about his body, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Wednesday.
According to Mr. Dratte, at approximately 9:28 p.m. on Tuesday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of gunshots being discharged in Smith Bay, in the vicinity of Lake’s Fried Chicken.
Police say the victim had already been transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by private vehicle, before EMS personnel could arrive to the scene.
In an interview with police at the medical facility, the victim said he was walking in the Smith Bay area when he heard four to five rounds of gunfire, and later realized that he had been shot.
The latest report was the second shooting incident in under 24 hours in Smith Bay. The victim of the first incident, who succumbed to his wounds, was also shot on Tuesday at around the one o’clock hour, according to police.
Both incidents are currently under active investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, according to the V.I.P.D. The force is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of those involved to call 340-774-221, or send an anonymous information online to Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may lead to a generous payday.
