ST. CROIX — A man succumbed to his wounds after being shot in the wee hours of Friday morning near the Cool Out Bar in Peter’s Rest, V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards confirmed to The Consortium this morning.

While details remain scant — Mr. Richards said he was awaiting a additional information from detectives — the commissioner said he received a call from the 911 emergency call center “shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning,” of shots being fired in the vicinity of the Cool Out Bar, with police and emergency personnel identifying one black male on the scene, who was unresponsive.

The victim has been identified by next of kin as Malik Joseph, who was said to be in either his late teens or early 20s.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators to call 340-778-2211, or contact the anonymous tips line Crime Stoppers USVI here.
