Suspect Who Allegedly Shot Man At Whim Ballpark Turns Himself In

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / June 26, 2017

ST. CROIX — Following the publishing of a story seeking the community’s assistance in locating a man who is suspected of shooting a male victim multiple times at the Whim Ballpark on Sunday, the Virgin Islands Police Department on Monday morning said the suspect turned himself later the same night.

The Consortium received the V.I.P.D. release at 9:04 p.m. and published it moments later. Since then, residents have shared the most wanted alert more than 230 times, with over 29,000 people seeing the post — and the face of the suspect.

The suspect, Nathaniel Hazel, also known as “Ninja”, allegedly shot a man multiples times in his upper body in the vicinity of the Whim ballpark at 6:03 p.m. on Sunday. Mr. Hazel turned himself in minutes before 11:00 p.m. last night. He was charged with first-degree assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and other gun-related charges, according to Mr. Dratte.

The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. His condition at time of writing was unknown.

The V.I.P.D. thanked the community for its continued assistance in bringing criminals to justice, and in making the territory’s communities safer.
