St. Thomas Postal Service Issues Latest Update

Community Center / September 16, 2017

Here’s the postal service latest update on reopening of post offices on St. Thomas, one of two islands in the territory whipped by Hurricane Irma.

TODAY (Friday, September 15, 2017)

Our distribution of mail efforts today were warmly greeted at the three locations – Emancipation, Havensight and Charlotte Amalie. Several hundred cars, most carrying several postal customers at a time, were safely guided through our grounds and another 50 or so local residents reportedly walked up to our location in Charlotte Amalie. They were happy to see us and we were pleased to execute hand-to-hand service in a relatively expedient manner.

TOMORROW (Saturday, September 15, 2017)

We can report continued upgrades to service that will go into effect on Saturday in St Thomas as noted below. Please note these times assure that we, and our customers, are able to be safely served while honoring the curfew:

1) We will restore mail pickup service for customers of the Tutu Mall / East End Post Office. Pickup of mail for customers of ZIP Code 00805 (conducted in Charlotte Amalie today) will resume on location on Saturday at 4605 Tutu Park Mall. Our service is scheduled to run from noon to 4 pm.
a. Customers with post office boxes should be prepared with identification in case of handout service but access to the boxes may be possible. Bring that key!

2) We will resume retail operations at two of our St Thomas postal facilities:
a. Havensight – 9007 Havensight Shopp Ctr
b. Emancipation – 5046 Norre Gade
c. All open St Thomas facilities will operate from noon until 4 pm on Saturday.
3) Charlotte Amalie Post Office (9846 Estate Thomas) will continue to serve as a pickup point for mail and packages that would otherwise be processed through our Veterans Annex. This is mail for residents whose address contains the ZIP Code 00803.

4) We are optimistic that transportation will allow us to bring in more mail for all locations in St Thomas, starting tomorrow. So if you came for mail on Friday, we anticipate more mail for you again Saturday.
a. There is still an embargo on Priority Mail Express and Live Animals to be shipped into St Thomas.

5) Street delivery is not yet possible in St Thomas.

I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest.
