The Virgin Islands Police Department late Monday reported multiple incidents that occurred throughout the territory, one which involved unauthorized possession of ammunition, and two others involving assault.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, on Saturday at approximately 4:28 a.m., several members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau along with members of the Special Operations Bureau, executed a judge-issued search warrant to the residence of Esteban Encarnacion and Daniella Flavien.
During the process of searching the suspects’ vehicle, police found several rounds of live ammunition. Police said neither Mr. Encarnacion nor Ms. Flavien had the license or authority to possess the ammunition in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
They were both arrested and charged with possession or sale of ammunition, according to Mr. Dratte. Unable to make bail of $10,000, both suspects were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending their advisement hearing.
Separately, on Monday at about 10:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center relative to a male victim who was reportedly assaulted.
Upon arrival to the hospital, the victim told police that he was assaulted by two male individuals, which left him with stab wounds to his right leg. The victim was treated and released.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Criminal Investigations Bureau in St. Thomas at 340-774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI here.
Finally, on Saturday at 7:30 a.m., the V.I.P.D.’s domestic violence arm in St. Thomas traveled to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in reference to an assault report.
When the unit arrived to the hospital, contact was made with the male victim, who said a female acquaintance stabbed him twice in his arm with a kitchen knife, and destroyed his apartment. The victim had two cuts on his forearm that required sutures, according to police. And upon inspection of the property, police found it to be destroyed as well, Mr. Dratte said.
Later the same day, police arrested Shenika Muhammed, 33, of St. Thomas, and charged her with third-degree assault after she was positively identified by the victim as the person who assaulted him, according to Mr. Dratte.
In accordance with the territory’s domestic violence laws, no bail was granted to Ms. Muhammed, and she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advisement hearing.
